I discovered Zocalo over the summer while wandering along Bloor Street West. The restaurant has a very unassuming chalkboard sign in the front so if you’re looking for the restaurant, keep an eye out for it! Their menu changes based on what ingredients are available each season and specializes in “broken bread” plates.

While I didn’t have one of their broken bread plates for lunch, they are often my go-to choice when I eat here. The plate looks like a de-constructed sandwich and comes with a variety of components. They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options as well which is something I love! Please note that if you do have any nut allergies like I do, they do have dishes that contain walnuts, sunflower seeds, etc.

Bottom photo: Bacon and brie quiche with a spelt crust served with pickled onions and arugula salad.

Dumpling craving: satisfied.

I tried their vegetarian dumplings for the first time and they are absolutely delicious. I wish I could purchase a bag of frozen dumplings from them so I can eat them at home.

Brunch at @WhippoorwillTO. Their smoked salmon is delicious!

I had dinner at Guu Sakabar (@GuuIzakaya) tonight at Bathurst and Bloor in Toronto. This is my second time dining there and I always have such a difficult time choosing what to eat when there are so many choices!

Both Scott (@therealscottd) and I agreed that the BBQ pork was our favourite of the night. It was rich, fatty, and had a touch of sweetness from the honey glaze. There was a little but of hot mustard on the side of the plate which was a nice touch to counter the richness of the meat.

I really enjoy restaurants like Guu which have small plates to share amongst a group of people. I don’t eat a lot at once so I love being able to try a little bit of everything!

So I tried getting my eyebrows waxed today and I’m not sure if it made a huge difference.  Mind you, the before photo on the left was taken a few days ago.

It wasn’t too painful but I don’t know if I would spend $8 on it again for the sake of looks. The spa I went to was really clean and efficient so if you’re looking for a nice place with affordable pricing check out Aroma Wellness Centre and Spa which is located at Bloor and Markham in the Annex. I appreciate the fact that you can make appointments online because I don’t always feel like chatting with people on the phone since I do it all day at work.

Found: One cockatiel at the Toronto Botanical Garden (777 Lawrence Avenue East). If you have any information about the owner(s) please let me know!

I just bought this amazing spice kit from The Mercantile on Roncesvalles. Now I can season my foods with more than just salt and pepper!

My friend Michelle Yu went missing yesterday and hasn’t been seen for more than 24 hours. Her family, friends, and our entire school are incredibly worried about her. It is unlike her to go anywhere without telling her family and she has a heart condition which requires that she take daily medication. Here is the news report about her disappearance.
Please help by reblogging this and posting on Facebook if possible. Even if you don’t live in Toronto, you may have friends/followers who do.
We just want her home safely. Thank you.

TPS sent out two emails about her as well. Hope she’s found - I’m glad I have a picture of her now, because I live about a 10-minute bus ride from where she was last seen.

I was browsing the Roncesvalles Village website since I just moved into this neighbourhood and I have to say that this is one of the worst websites I’ve seen in a while. I’m sure the shop is fantastic as I’ve passed by it before but they really need a website update. Right now all I can think of are the terrible geocities and angelfire websites I used to browse.
