I wonder why my hands are moving so fast during the character selection screen. (I did however beat the guy I was playing and felt pretty good about it).
I went to LoveGety arcade located in Richmond Hill last night to check out Super Street Fighter: Arcade Edition. This was a new experience for me because I never grew up in the era of arcades in Toronto. Well to be honest I did, but I was quite young at the time and didn’t have anyone to take me to arcades at the age of 10.
Thus far, I’ve only ever played competitive fighting games at arcades when I was in Hong Kong this summer but that was Soul Calibur 3. Due to the fact that it isn’t as popular a game anymore, there wasn’t much competition unlike last night. I found it a lot of fun to be able to socialize with people while watching others play. It made the hour long wait times to get a chance to even touch the cab much more bearable. Playing itself wasn’t even as nerve wracking because I knew the majority of people there.
Testing Rose out, I’m rather disheartened with the nerf on her U2. The lack of invincibility makes it impossible to use as a defensive technique on wakeup now. I’m pretty sure my heart broke every time I tried to use it out of habit and just ended up eating damage. I’m also fairly certain that I let out a couple anguished cries as well.
If I choose to stick with her when AE gets released on console, I’ll have to start using it in a more offensive manner instead. I’ll try testing some things out on Super to see how I can do this and make it work.
Learning at the HQ
So if you noticed I posted a picture of a bunch of us Toronto SF players degenning in what looked to be a wooden box. That my friends is actually TOSFHQ, a new venue we opened up in Toronto last week in order to have a place to play casuals in.
(More information on the venue can be found here: www.tinyurl.com/TOSFHQFB and here: http://shoryuken.com/f248/team-stc-presents-tosf-hq-its-here-toronto-256046/)
Even though I am one of the keyholders, I don’t go as often as the other guys as I’m rather swamped with school work and other miscellaneous things. I do try to be there at least 2-3 times a week though since that is where I get the most practice.
On Tuesday Stephen (Dark_Dragon) was there and watching me struggle trying to land Rose’s jab, jab, short, cr. strong xx spiral combo. I couldn’t land the cr. strong after the short and I think he could tell I was getting annoyed at myself for consistently failing.
Luckily for me, Stephen is a nice guy wanted to help me out so he asked if I was “plinking”. Now, I’ve heard the term used before but I never knew what it was so he spent 20 minutes with me showing me how to plink, how it works, and why it is useful. Now that I can do it, I still need to practice it in training mode so I can get the combo down 30 times in row! (Juicebox style!)
Too bad my stick is now at TOSFHQ so I can’t practice it at home. I should steal it back this weekend.
