As promised, here are the photos from the event I planned as part of a school project! Here are the before pictures again:
I wish I could write a post that did our event justice but even now I’m too tired to write anything interesting up. I posted periodically about it but last evening our event “The Glass Factory” took place. As a Special Events Management student, our program tasked us to create an event to raise money for George Brown College’s Scholarship Foundation. My team consisted of 24 individuals and we all agreed to donate 20% of the profits from our program to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation as well.
The Glass Factory was inspired by Andy Warhol’s studio space in Manhattan in the 1960’s titled “The Factory”. We wanted to recreate a night similar to one in Warhol’s Factory, where guests not only experience art, but become a part of it themselves.
My role in this entire endeavor was “Head of Entertainment”. Along with 3 other members from our team, we created the entire entertainment schedule for the night which involved booking and communicating with artists, bands, and the AV/Tech staff at our venue. So throughout the evening we had 4 different musical acts perform, 4 artists working to create art throughout the event, and 1 art exhibit.
“In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.”
These words were spoken by Warhol himself and we wanted to incorporate some form of this into our event. We projected a digital clock countdown onto the wall behind where the bands were performing. Each act for the duration of the night had a spotlight on them for 15 minutes and we used directional spotlights to showcase them to our guests.

I’m really happy with how the event turned out despite all the stress involved working with 23 other different personalities and pulling an event together in 6 weeks. In total we raised close to $5000 last night which we will be donating to the aforementioned charities. I’m extremely proud of the work we did to pull off such a successful evening. A big thank you goes out to everyone who showed up last night in support of myself, our group, and our event. I appreciate all the support that I’ve received during this process and I’m sad that as of next week, I won’t be having classes with any of these wonderful people anymore.

As a special events management student, part of our course work involves actually planning events. The event that my group and I organized is called “Cafe Lumiere” and takes place tomorrow between 11AM-3PM.
This spontaneous four hour cafe will be set up on my campus and we’ll be selling a variety of beverages and pastries. Aveda salon workers will be present giving out hand massages and an acoustic musician will be performing throughout the day. We’ll also have boardgames and magazines available for those who wish to use them.
I was in charge of developing and running the food and beverage station tomorrow. Unfortunately we were unable to obtain the commercial espresso maker that we have in school so I’ve been practicing on a “made for home use” one for the past couple of days. I’ve also been boiling away to make homemade syrups to flavour the specialty drinks so some burns and mishaps have been had.
I attempted to make the beverage menu simple enough so that I can crank everything out with some sort of efficiency tomorrow.

All the proceeds from this event go towards helping us fund our big end of year events in February. The proceeds from that event are then donated to George Brown College and used to create bursaries for future students.
